Port Murray Ceramic Paintings

Painted 1985

These Pheasant and Trout Ceramic tile paintings were painted around 1985 for a family in Port Murray, New Jersey, after Rudolf H. Buenz had been commissioned by the head of the family to create a stained glass piece for a church in the area. Buenz was an avid hunter and fly fisherman and created many works of art featuring wildlife. This is the only known ceramic painting by him and appear to be Wheeling Ceramic Trivets, hand-painted and sealed by Buenz. The pieces stayed with the family, being passed down to their daughter, and then grandson, who found them along with several articles about the Church and Buenz’ work.

A Special Thanks to Mr Parke and his mother for submitting these photos and sending the original pieces to be preserved and catalogued by Buenz’ family!
